Solution

Youwe delivered a Drupal multisite platform with a single shared codebase and standardized structure. This gave Barenbrug’s regional teams independent content management while ensuring global brand consistency

Barenbrug, a global leader in grass seed research, production and sales, serves diverse markets across continents. With operations in countries such as the USA, the Netherlands, France and Australia, Barenbrug needed a modern digital platform to unify its global web presence, without limiting regional flexibility.

The company’s previous digital setup provided a foundation but offered limited consistency, scalability, and content governance. Content managers across countries worked with a variety of tools, which led to diverse approaches and user experiences.

Youwe developed a robust Drupal multisite platform with a shared codebase and unified structure, enabling each regional team to independently manage content and media in their own language, while maintaining a consistent global brand identity.

Each team now has full control of their local site, while we maintain a strong, unified digital foundation

Our solution

One codebase, many websites

Youwe implemented a multisite Drupal architecture where each country runs its own website instance, complete with localized domains and content, but all powered by one shared codebase. This ensures structural consistency while allowing for full editorial independence.

Global platform, Local possibilities

Each country operates its own backend with a unique database, asset library, and user roles, ensuring that content managers only see and manage assets relevant to their market. This setup streamlines workflows, reduces complexity, and at the same time offers full multilingual flexibility. Domains can host single or multiple languages as needed, for example, Barenbrug France publishes in French, while Australia uses English (AU), without impacting other sites.

Smart segment navigation

Dynamic filtering and breadcrumb structures were implemented using contextual taxonomy and Drupal Views. Editors can now manage product and challenge overviews with custom segment/subsegment logic, improving UX and SEO.

Uniform structure and components

All websites follow a standardized component and content type model, including products, articles, testimonials, and technologies. This allows for consistent page designs across regions, regardless of language or location.

The results

From product-centric to authority-driven

Barenbrug’s new multisite platform redefined how content is presented across the sites. Instead of leading with products, the focus shifted to delivering expertise, solutions, and thought leadership, positioning Barenbrug as an authority in the field. Regional teams gained autonomy and flexibility, while the brand maintained technical consistency and global governance. The outcome: faster content production, streamlined asset management, and effortless global rollouts of future updates.

Key Outcomes

  • Unified global platform with consistent design and structure

  • Full editorial freedom for each region

  • Scalable, future-proof infrastructure

  • Improved editorial efficiency and asset control

  • Optimized multilingual support and segment-based navigation
